Our first choice of window was not available and was on back order for at least several months. So we opted for a more square window instead of a rectangular window in the bedroom.
It is a little nerve racking to cut off a huge hunk of metal in the side of a van if you don't know what you are doing. But no fear - Shannon's dad is a retired auto body owner and has over 40 years experience in body work. He said "bring it over to the garage and we will figure it out!" So once again, we trotted across town and used his expertise and tools to cut out this panel. After the panel was cut out, we had to apply rustoleum to the outline and exposed metal to ensure there are no rust issues down the road. While it was drying, we outlined the window with our rubberized seal to complete the installation.
They say measure twice and cut once, right? I think we measured about 10 times before we cut. We cut out a template from a large cardboard box to ensure we didn't make any mistakes. It took a full day to get this part of the build done, but it worked great.
As soon as we took the van home, we gave it a bath with as high power hose as we could to test for any leakage. So far, so good. But we will monitor over the next few days to ensure no issues with water.
